WGIV is a Urban Inspiration Talk/Gospel radio station currently found at 1370 on the AM radio dial. Its city of license is Pineville,North Carolina.
The station on 1370 originated in Gastonia, North Carolina in the late 1940s as a daytime operation with the call letters WLTC, which stood for "World's Largest Textile Center", a slogan for the City of Gastonia. For most of the WLTC years, the station broadcast country music, except for the midday show which was Southern Gospel music with popular host "Miss Tillie" Lowery.
In the late 1980s, the station was acquired by Ford Broadcasting of China Grove, North Carolina, which began full-time operation of the station with a format of Southern Gospel Music. "Miss Tillie" retired in 1995 after hosting the midday show for more than 25 years.
In 1998, Ford Broadcasting sold WLTC to Frank Neely, owner of WGCD,and the station's format changed to urban contemporary gospel music. The station retained the WLTC call letters until early in 2005. Shortly after acquiring the WGIV call letters, the station relocated to the Charlotte Metropolitan area and was licensed by the FCC which changed its city of license to Pineville, built a new transmitter site in Charlotte, North Carolina and increased its daytime power to 3,000 watts. WGIV currently operates at 16,000 watts, which makes the WGIV the second most powerful AM radio station broadcasting from within the corporate limits of Charlotte. Currently, WGIV programs as a Inspirational Talk/Gospel station with the position statement of "The Best in Talk and Inspiration." It is the goal of the ownership and management of WGIV to not only offer Inspirational music but to also serve as a vehicle of Information to the Charlotte community. WGIV maintains the distinction of one of the oldest,independent African-American owned radio stations in the USA.
History on 1600 AM
The WGIV calls have a much more extensive history in Charlotte, North Carolina. The 1600 frequency first appeared in that city with the WGIV call letters in 1947. It was the first station in that city to target black listeners. Popular DJ's of the station in the 1950s and 1960s included "Genial Gene" Potts, Chattie Hattie and "Rockin' Ray" Gooding.
WGIV was a popular station in the city throughout the 1970s. In 1979, serious competition for Urban listeners appeared in the form of Concord-licensed WPEG. By the early 1990s the owners of WPEG had purchased what was left of WGIV. Late in 1991, WPEG and WGIV were airing the same programming. Later, WGIV changed to a solid gold soul format with the call letters WBAV. The owners of the two stations had also purchased Gastonia, North Carolina-based Kiss 102 and changed it to an Adult R&B format under the calls WBAV-FM.
When the soul music format proved not to be successful, pressure from Charlotte's urban community forced the owners to change the station in 1997 to a Urban Gospel format and to re-adopt the WGIV call letters. The station call letters and format then remained unchanged for nearly a decade, until 2003 when the station's owners surrendered the license in favor of an expanded band frequency on 1660 AM. The new station was given the call letters WFNA and paired with WGIV's co-owned sports outlet WFNZ. Therefore, the 1600 frequency went silent in Charlotte after nearly 56 years of continuous service.

In 1990, Atiya M Harris relocated to the great state of North Carolina by way of Boston, Massachusetts. Currently, she is residing within the Charlotte Mecklenburg area, where she became an Owner/Broker in Charge of Home Solutions Realty. In addition to this accomplishment, as of 1998 she holds four insurance licenses and served as a state qualified Mortgage Loan Officer for 11 years.
Little did this multitalented young woman from Boston know that her thirst for vision and diversity would lead her to seize a starting moment in the radio industry on “The Time is Now Show.” This once popular talk show was previously aired for the listeners on WLTC. While periodically hosting this talk show, she collaborated with other members in creating the show topics and brainstorming for various ways to improve the program’s customer focus, as well as to organize more effective marketing strategies.
After acquiring more industry experience and successfully coordinating a fundraiser between WLTC and the Red Cross in assisting the Tsunami victims, she was offered a golden opportunity, her very own talk show, “The Community Spotlight,” a talk show that highlighted everyday concerns and issues within the community. This then led her back to a talk show regarding her first love. Assisting individuals in purchasing homes by way of coaching and education brought into existence “Home Buying is a Breeze. ‘ She now delivers similar information including investment opportunities on her brand new talk show, “Home Solutions Realty and Finance.”

Reflecting back on my life I see many stages that shaped my money awareness. As the youngest of six children, I learned that waste was not an option as there was seldom excess; we had to make the most out of what we had. My Father worked hard to maintain the household, as he delivered all of us safely to adulthood without the presence of drugs and the many other evils that society has to offer.
In adulthood I honored my Father by working hard and being self-sufficient. Even so, my adult life was not without many ups and downs. After college I got a job in my career field and my income grew. But still my available cash always seemed to remain the same; just one step less than what I needed to make ends meet.
As a result, two new friends attempted to permanently attach themselves to my life…Debt and Interest. My credit suffered, I was turned down for loans, and my phone wouldn’t stop ringing. I was “stuck” in a cycle that I didn’t know how to get out of.
THE PRESENT
Desperation from life’s seemingly uncontrollable circumstances forced me to explore alternative means of income. This landed me in my first business venture in 1997. My initial performance could best be described as “ignorance on fire”…I was excited but couldn’t exactly tell you why.
It was there that my business and money awareness began. Through years of learning I corrected my Credit, eliminated my Debt, made my Taxes profitable, and significantly increased my Investments.
I also ventured into Real Estate Investment and owned a Financial Education Company. My specialties grew to include Mortgage, Insurance, Credit, Investments, Debt, Taxes, Business Ownership, and Wealth Consulting. Today, I am the President of iCON of Success…the Ultimate Financial Education Company.

Amani Abdul is a native Detroiter who was influenced by the challenges associated with the inner city lifestyles at a very young age. Coming from a strict, mixed background, Amani has very strong views on life. She has a huge passion for people, poetry, sports and real, genuine conversation. A natural writer, Amani has always utilized the art of writing to express her thoughts.
Amani attended Detroit College of Business and The University of Maryland University College majoring in business and communications with a minor in psychology. She has one son, Ameer, whom she credits as being her greatest joy and accomplishment. Amani has enjoyed professional success as an entrepreneur and business manager and has worked on projects such as Y.B.I. (Young Boys Incorporated)- The Autobiography of Butch Jones book, the production of the movie Forbidden Fruit, and Black Cinema Café, where she and her partners premiered independent black films to urban audiences prior to their release and distribution.
Embracing her talents as a writer and love of all creative things and people, Amani has composed well over 300 poems and aspires to further leverage her writing abilities in music lyrics, screenplays, spiritual quotes, sports commentary, and novels. Amani has lived in Washington, DC and currently resides in Charlotte, NC. She is a host on the weekly relationship show LOVE JONES with Marette Parker and could also be heard on the Big Pat & P-Can Tan Sports Show on The Soul of Charlotte station WGIV 103.3FM as a sports contributor.

Marette Parker is originally from Washington, D.C. but currently resides in Charlotte, N.C; she is affectionately known over the radio airwaves as “Ms. Parker” (Lady Cougar). Ms. Parker is definitely a Cougar because she’s powerful with her female animalistic approach. She is a single, divorced mother of three daughters, Destiny, Dynasty and Dai (pronounced day). She is always proud to speak of the loving relationship that her parents, Rhudine and the late Hayward Sellers, shared for 41 years. Ms. Parker graduated from South Carolina State with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing/Minor-Drama Professional. Ms. Parker is an outspoken, driven individual who has endured a lot of trials and tribulations in her lifetime, yet through it all she has been able to stand tall. Lady Cougar has been able
to transfer her pain into laughter with her comedic views/innuendos over the radio airwaves. Ms. Parker discovered her love in radio via Radio Host BJ Murphy. Since January 2011, Ms. Parker has shared her relationship experiences on The BJ Murphy Show every Thursday from 8-9 a.m. Ms. Parker considers herself as being a TRIPLE THREAT- as a Relationship Expert based upon being SINGLE, MARRIED and DIVORCED! Her relationship experiences have allowed her to gain a tremendous amount of relationship experiences from these particular aspects of her life.
