History of WDRBmedia

WDRBmedia is a professional Urban R&B radio station priding itself with years of serving the community.  For double the information and inspiration through, we provide education via talk shows and entertainment via music to stir the heart, body and soul.  Bringing you the best Hits, R&B, Soul, Old School, Gospel, & Jazz.

The station on 1370am originated in Gastonia, North Carolina in the late 1940s as a daytime operation with the call letters WLTC, which stood for "World's Largest Textile Center", a slogan for the City of Gastonia. For most of the WLTC years, the station broadcasted country music, except for the midday show which was Southern Gospel music with popular host "Miss Tillie" Lowery.

In the late 1980s, the station was acquired by Ford Broadcasting of China Grove, North Carolina, which began full-time operation of the station with a format of Southern Gospel Music. "Miss Tillie" retired in 1995 after hosting the midday show for more than 25 years.

In 1998, Ford Broadcasting sold WLTC.  Therefore, the station's format changed to urban contemporary gospel music. The station retained the WLTC call letters until early 2005. Shortly after acquiring the WGIV call letters, the station relocated to the Charlotte Metropolitan area and was licensed by the FCC, which changed its city of license to Pineville.  They then built a new transmitter site in Charlotte, North Carolina and increased its daytime power by 3,000 watts. WGIV then operated at 16,000 watts, which made WGIV the second most powerful AM radio station broadcasting from within the corporate limits of Charlotte.

In 2013, WDRBmedia partnered with WGIV, which programs Hits, R&B, Soul, Old School, Gospel, & Jazz with the position statement of "The Soul Of Charlotte".  It is the goal of the ownership and management of WDRBmedia to not only offer music to inspire but to also serve as a vehicle of information to educate the community at large through their all digital network. WGIV maintained the distinction of one of the oldest, independent African-American owned radio stations in the USA.  Currently, WDRBmedia is now serving as the largest privately held Urban talk radio station in the entire east coast with radio show hosts in multiple states throughout the country.  For employment, advertising, consulting, and so much more, call 877-342-7770.
